John Marino
John entered into the golf business after graduating from the University of Connecticut. He started his career in golf as an assistant golf professional at Round Hill Club in Greenwich, CT. John came to Old Chatham when the Club opened in 2001 and he has been the only golf professional the Club has known.
In his 15 years at Old Chatham, John has mentored countless assistant professionals and helped them to obtain established careers in the golf industry. Currently, five former assistants hold head professional positions, while other have moved on to becoming assistants at top 100 clubs, two of which are in the Carolinas Section. In 2012, John won the Carolinas Section’s Bill Strausbaugh Award given annually to recognize mentoring.
Apart from his duties as Director of Operations at Old Chatham, John currently serves as the President of the Carolinas PGA Section, the largest section in the country with over 2,000 golf professionals and over 800 golf courses. John served on First Tee — Triangle Board of Directors and continues to be an advocate for the chapter.
A native of Greenwich, CT. John resides in Chapel Hill with his wife Jill and their two boys Mats, Thijs, and daughter Maren.
